Every marketer knows that YouTube is a lead generation goldmine with almost limitless potential. However, it's also true that YouTube is very crowded. Every new marketer's problem is How do I get people to see my video instead of the millions of others?
The solution? Do effective YouTube SEO, period! Most people, unfortunately are lazy, they upload a video and hope that it will "go viral". Sadly, that will not happen, unless you take the time to optimise your videos for SEO, you'll get unlimited tons of targeted traffic from even one video as long as it is being searched for. Now before I show and explain to you the 3 Advanced ways to doing effective YouTube SEO, make sure you learn more on the following as YouTube ranks videos by these:
- Title tag information
- Audience retention
- Keywords in description tag
- Tags
- Video length
- Number of subscribers after watching
- Comments
- Likes and dislikes
1. Optimise your Description
I would want to say the more YouTube knows about your video, the more chances, all things being equal, of getting your video ranked. Make sure you have keywords in the description to rank and I would also say you get more chances to rank if you use super-long tail keywords. For example, I would go for keywords like 'How to get Facebook leads' than just 'Facebook leads'.
Before I forget, when optimising your video description, I always make sure that what am doing is am 'describing' what I was saying in the video, and I always put a short call to action just at the 'front' of the description. For example, I would start my description as, For more details, click on: then I put a link where I want to send the visitor to after they watch the video.
I also want the tags, which you put below the description, to have been mentioned in the video, and also to have been included in the description. This is very crucial when doing YouTube SEO.
Make sure the description is about 250-500 words, assuming this has not been changed by YouTube by the time you are reading this, and at the end of the description, have a call to action link again, but most importantly, and do not forget this; have the link to that same video you are uploading put in the description at the bottom of the description. This is giving your video backlinks, it helps a lot.
2. Optimise the Title
When doing YouTube SEO, I have found out that when I write the title of the video, I want to have the keywords in the title and it has to be at the start of the title itself. I have seen so many people put their video title as ' How to get Facebook leads' when they were going after the keywords 'Facebook Leads', you do not want to make that mistake.
Also, as a bonus tip, I would really encourage you to note that when you record your video, before even uploading it, whilst it is still on your device, computer, phone or whatever, make sure you name it as the keywords you are going after, in my example above, I would name the file 'Facebook Leads'. I did not know this until I invested in a course on YouTube marketing.
3. Optimize Around Video Keywords
You probably know that ranking in YouTube is great, but ranking your video in YouTube and Google is more than great, Google owns YouTube, so it gives YouTube videos a cutting edge in the SERPs, but it is only true for some keywords and these keywords are what I am referring to as video keywords because they tend to have video results on the first page of Google. So I would say before deciding on a keyword for your video, check to see if there are video results on the first page. If so, that's a keyword you should strongly consider because you can potentially get your video ranked in both Google and YouTube.
